In the laneways of Fitzroy I found an entire vocabulary of commercial desire — hairdressers, printers, tailors — each announcing themselves in a style that reflects a decade and a sensibility. The fonts are accidental archives.
Sydney's Newtown tells a different story — bolder graphics, more layers, a density of stickers and paste-ups that reads almost like a timeline of subcultural movements.
